Guest checks-out from 5-star hotel after 603 days, dodging $70,000 bill

Roseate House New Delhi has filed a report to the police about a man who checked into the hotel and kept extending his stay until he finally left paying nothing.

As reported by the South China Morning Post on Friday, the guest, identified as Ankush Dutta, first booked a room at the residence on May 30, 2019, for one night. He then kept extending his booking until he left on January 22, 2021.

His nearly two-year stay cost 5.8 million Indian rupees (around $70,000) in total, however, he left without paying anything.

The 5-star hotel alleged that one of its staff was involved in helping Dutta to evade the law. It described in their complaint to the police that the staff “forged, deleted, added, and falsified a large number of entries” in the guest’s account to avoid the bill payment.

Upon the residence’s request, police’s investigation is underway.

Welcoming its first guest in 2016, Roseate House New Delhi has a total of 216 rooms, which start at around 8,500 rupees ($104) per night.
