Last body found in tourist helicopter crash near Ha Long Bay


The body of the fifth and final victim of a helicopter crash near Ha Long Bay was found Friday morning.

The remains of Nguyen Thi Hoi, 60, were found 30 m away from the site of the crash, a representative of the Hai Phong military said. Her remains are expected to be transported to the Bai Chay hospital and eventually be handed over to her family in Da Nang in central Vietnam, the representative added.

Search and rescue efforts would end Friday morning once all fragments of the fallen helicopter are retrieved.

The VN-8650 helicopter piloted by 59-year-old Chu Quang Minh crashed on Wednesday evening while carrying four passengers on a sightseeing trip of Ha Long Bay.

The aircraft, which took off from Tuan Chau Island, lost contact after 10 minutes. It crashed into a sea regions between Quang Ninh and Hai Phong, 7 km away from where it took off.

Over 300 people were dispatched for search and rescue efforts.

Among the victims were Hoi’s husband Ho Ta Luc, Luc’s sister, and a family friend.
