Vietnamese-American couple goes viral for gold wedding gifts

Robin’s family gave the couple a collection of diamond jewelry, 10 taels of gold, a house in the U.S. worth $500,000, and $10,000 in cash.

Meanwhile, Duy’s family gifted the couple four taels of gold and VND 200 million (around 8,500) in cash.

A TikTok video of the wedding ceremony on June 16 had garnered over 102,000 views as of Friday for their gold wedding gifts.

“After the video went viral, many people sent us their blessings, which made me happy,” Duy said. “I think there are many couples that have been given even more valuable gifts, but I really appreciate the gifts I got as our parents put much effort into them.”

Duy, of Long An, said that she first met Robin, whose family immigrated to the U.S., in 2017 because their mothers were friends. “We started as normal friends,” she said.

The couple, both 19, is planning to obtain a U.S. visa for Duy so she can come to the U.S. and help her husband and in-laws run their business.
