A 13-year-old girl in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) got dragged over 20 meters on the street after holding on to the motorbike of a thief who stole her mobile phone on Monday.
Dinh Hoang Nam, 48, stopped his motorbike in front of a beverage stall on Vo Van Tan Street in Binh Chanh District, asking for vegetable juice. The stall’s owner, 33-year-old Yen, was away at the time, leaving her 13-year-old daughter alone there to run the place.
While the girl was making the juice, she realized that her mother’s phone disappeared after the man left on his motorbike. She suspected that he had stolen the phone and so chased after the motorbike, holding onto it and screaming for others to help.
The man dragged the girl behind him for over 20 meters along the street before falling down. Locals came and subdued the man and handed him to the police, according to security camera footage. The girl suffered knee scratches.
The police eventually found Yen’s phone in Nam’s pocket. He was put under arrest on Tuesday for investigation for stealing.
