Father of Miss World Vietnam 2023 Huynh Tran Y Nhi, said he was not afraid that his daughter would get into controversies by working in the entertainment industry.
Over 20 Nhi’s relatives traveled tens of kilometers from the coastal province of Binh Dinh to the city of Quy Nhon to attend the 2023 Miss World Vietnam contest’s final night on July 22. They were emotional when Nhi was announced as the newest Miss World Vietnam.

“My heart beat so fast every time Nhi’s name was called,” said Huynh Tan Nguyen, the beauty queen’s father. “I couldn’t sit still, out of nervousness, and I had to stand up and walk eventually. Our whole family was happy and proud of Nhi winning today.”
He and other family members said Nhi started showing her desire to compete in a beauty pageant around two years ago, after finishing as a runner-up of the 2023 Binh Dinh student beauty contest.
They did not dare call her on the phone over the past few months, as they knew she was busy with the contest. Instead, they sent their encouragement via text messages.
Nhi’s father works in construction, while her mother is a full-time housewife. She is the oldest of the three sisters.
“Nhi does not live like others her age who are pampered by their families and rarely touch anything,” Nguyen said. “She is the oldest sister, so she has to set an example to her two younger siblings.”
He said the family had never had to worry about Nhi, since she has been upright, strong, and decisive since she was a child.
Even when she relocated to Ho Chi Minh City to complete her undergraduate course, she proved herself to her family by showing them that she could live independently and make money with her part-time jobs.
“I’m not worried about Nhi getting involved in controversies,” Nguyen said. “I believe Nhi will make the right decisions in both her work and private life.”
Nguyen Thi Phuong, Nhi’s 73-year-old grandmother, said the beauty queen was an active and hardworking woman.
“Nhi made her dream come true today, and I wish she can be even more rational and successful from now on,” she said.
Nhi’s family said she inherited her independence and strong determination from her father, to which the beauty queen agreed.
She said she completed challenges in the contest by reminding herself of how her father overcame hardships in life with his patience and efforts.
Nhi, 21, is an undergraduate student at Ho Chi Minh City International University. She won the subcategory “Miss Fashionable” in the 2023 Miss World Vietnam contest in addition to her winner title. She will represent Vietnam at the 2024 Miss World pageant.
