10,000 Vietnamese applications downloaded a minute

At the ThinkApps 2024 event, Marc Woo, managing director in Vietnam for Google, on Thursday said Vietnam’s application and game development industry has been among the global top 5 for two consecutive years, thanks to the number of downloads for Vietnamese applications and games.

With every passing minute, Vietnamese applications are downloaded 10,700 times.

Revenues gained from the applications have also increased by 21%, reaching $200 million, Woo said.

However, experts said the money gained by Vietnamese developers and publishers has not yet matched their true potential.

Vietnam is currently ranked 28th globally regarding revenues from in-app purchases, statistics revealed.

In comparison, certain markets like Cyprus only have 300 publishers, but have revenues reaching $1.4 billion.

Turkey has 2,000 publishers with revenues at $1.8 billion. Meanwhile, Vietnam has 1,500 publishers, but their revenues only reached $200 million.

Developers and publishers, especially those in gaming, are recommended to pay special attention to crafting high-value experience to generate sustainable sources of revenue. The use of AI also needs to be utilized to foster innovation.

Vietnam’s game and application development industry is facing numerous challenges, including the integration of AI, lack of AI experts and high-quality training programs, among others, according to Google.
