A golfer who is a deputy of the Quang Nam Province’s legislature People’s Council had hit a female caddy with his club during a dispute.
Nguyen Viet Dung, 44, also chairman of the management board of the Dat Quang Group company, went to a BRG gold course in Da Nang that borders Quang Nam on December 6 with several partners to play gold, Dung said in a Tuesday report to the Quang Nam People’s Council.
A caddy named Loan, 32, instructed his group on playing golf. Due to disputes involving game rules, Dung argued with the caddy and swung a golf club downwards towards her direction. The club then snapped in half, with one half flying at Loan’s face and injuring her.
Dung’s relatives took Loan to the Da Nang Hospital for a check-up. Dung said he had apologized to Loan and paid for all her hospital expenses.
“I truly regret what my actions have caused to Loan, as well as the reputation of the Quang Nam People’s Council,” he said.
Loan has recovered from her injury and returned to work Tuesday.
The BRG Da Nang announced it would stop providing services for Dung in all BRG Golf facilities.
A representative of the Bach Khoa Da Nang golf club, where Dung was a member, said that Dung’s actions were a serious violation on the rules and culture of golf, tarnishing the reputation of golf players and the sport itself.
The club on December 9 said it had “cancelled” Dung’s membership and that he is permanently banned from all events organized by the club.
A press conference regarding the matter was supposed to be held by the Quang Nam People’s Council on Tuesday, but was postponed due to “lack of information.” Police of Da Nang’s Ngu Hanh Son District have also not released any info regarding the incident.
