Young Vietnamese travelers spend $1,260 per trip: survey

Vietnamese aged between 20 and 40 spend an average of VND30 million (US$1,260) while traveling, a survey by travel e-commerce platform Klook found.

Some 71% of respondents prefer nature tourism and outdoor activities, 61% want cultural experiences and 53% like water activities, the survey of 300 Vietnamese respondents found.

“Snorkeling and diving classes have been on the rise in the past six months, attracting mostly people aged between 20 and 40,” Nguyen Huy Hoang, managing director of Klook Vietnam, said.

Two thirds of young Vietnamese prefer overseas to domestic travel, with Singapore, Japan and Thailand being their favorite destinations.

Nguyen Nhi, 27, a communications officer working in Ho Chi Minh City, said she recently spent nearly VND30 million for a trekking trip in Kashmir in India.

“The amount is equivalent to two months of my salary, but I don’t regret it because I experienced many interesting mountain climbing activities and discovered local culture in North India.”

Nearly half of young people in the Asia-Pacific region plan to spend twice their average monthly income on a trip.

Chinese spend an average of $4,000 on a trip, higher than any other country in the region.
