Turkey’s IC Holdings wants to build Vietnam metro

Turkish construction firm IC Holdings, which has won a hotly-contested major bid for a project at southern Vietnam’s highly-anticipated Long Thanh International Airport, wants to build Vietnam’s new metro lines.

During an official Vietnamese delegation’s state visit to Turkey on Thursday, IC president Ibrahim Cecen told Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh that his firm wants to establish long term partnerships in Vietnam because it considers the country its “second home.”

Cecen said his firm is eyeing the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh Railway, Ho Chi Minh City’s Metro Line No. 4 and Hanoi’s Metro Line No. 5 in the capital.

A unit of IC Holdings is part of Vietur, a group of construction firms which has recently won the VND35 trillion ($1.44 billion) bid to build a delayed terminal at Long Thanh International Airport in the southern province of Dong Nai.

PM Chinh supported Cecen’s initiative to broaden the scope of its construction projects in Vietnam.

He encouraged IC Holdings to invest in large-scale transportation projects in his country.

“The Vietnamese government will create favorable conditions for foreign investors, including Turkish companies, to invest in key infrastructure in Vietnam, including upcoming expressways, airports, seaports and metro lines,” Chinh declared.

He also congratulated IC Holdings’ unit IC Ictas on winning the Long Thanh terminal bid and encouraged the firm to complete the project on time.

IC Holdings is a Turkish conglomerate that took in a total revenue of $5.3 billion last year.
