Vietnamese women’s team in final preparations for AFF cup

HÀ NỘI — Captain of the Việt Nam women’s football team Huỳnh Như said that the side are in the final stages of preparations for the upcoming ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship 2022.

The team are training at the Việt Nam Youth Football Training Centre in Hà Nội ahead of the tournament.

“Recently, the whole team has been focusing on tactics in training. Due to the hot weather in Hà Nội, coach Mai Đức Chung and the coaching staff also made some adjustments to ensure the physical strength of the players,” Như said.

Coach Chung has called up several rising stars for the regional tournament.

“The young players are integrating very well with the team. They have made great progress and have kept up with the training sessions. This is a positive sign for the national team to move toward furthering the goals of Vietnamese women’s football. I hope that they will continue to maintain that spirit,” Như said.

“In training as well as in daily life, I always give encouragement as well as help young players to make their efforts to train well, helping the women’s team getting stronger and stronger.”

Ahead of the AFF championship, the Vietnamese team will train in France from June 27 to July 2, where they will play a friendly against the French women’s team on July 1.

Như said that this trip will be a very good opportunity for the players to test themselves against one of the top teams in the world, ahead of the 2023 World Cup.

At the 2022 AFF Women’s Championship Việt Nam are in Group B with Myanmar, Timor Leste, Laos and Cambodia, which takes place in the Philippines from July 4-17, with a record 11 teams competing.

Group A is made up of Thailand, the hosts Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Australia.

Việt Nam are reigning champions after defeating Thailand in the finals of the AFF Cup 2019.

After their training and friendly match in France, the Việt Nam team will fly to the Philippines to prepare for the opening match against the Cambodian women’s team on July 7. VNS
