HÀ NỘI — The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has approved the Country Programme for Việt Nam for 2022-2026 and a financial package worth over US$120 million.

The programme document aims to help the Vietnamese Government achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals, guided by the UNDP Strategic Plan through economic transformation; climate change, disaster resilience and environmental sustainability; as well as governance and access to justice.

People in Việt Nam, especially those at risk of being left behind, will contribute to and benefit equitably from a more sustainable, inclusive and gender-responsive economic transformation based on innovation, entrepreneurship, enhanced productivity and competitiveness by 2026.

They will also contribute to a safer and cleaner environment resulting from effective mitigation and adaptation to climate change, disaster risk reduction, the circular economy, clean and renewable energy, and sustainable management of natural resources.

Other benefits include a more just, safe, and inclusive society based on improved governance, responsive institutions, strengthened rule of law and protection of human rights, gender equality and freedom from violence and discrimination.

Priority will be given to the Government to be adaptive and agile in responses to complex and emerging challenges by evidence gathering and analysis to address new forms of poverty; keeping the environment at the heart of economic development; inclusive, human-centric digitalisation and innovation; reframing policy choices; testing and scaling up successful models; and developing platforms to improve fiscal planning.

According to UNDP Resident Representative in Việt Nam Caitlin Wiesen, the programme paves the way the UNDP will implement the goals based on innovation and transformation of ecosystems

The UNDP will closely cooperate with its partners to speed up green and inclusive transformation, with the most vulnerable given greater opportunities. — VnExpress News
