Five females aged 15-19 have been taken into custody for selling two 12-year-old girls to karaoke bars in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak.
Three girls aged 15-17 are now detained while two others aged 17 and 19 have been placed under house arrest as police investigate them for the charge of “trading people under 16.”
According to the police, the three girls of 15-17 came to look for jobs in Buon Ma Thuot City but could not find anything to do.
Eventually, they were in need of money for daily expenses.
They made a plan to trick other girls who in the same situation by working as brokers and selling others to karaoke bars for commission.
The three then found two girls, who were then 12 and had left their home for Buon Ma Thuot to look for jobs. They told the girls that they would offer them jobs with high payment at pubs.
The two girls agreed.
The group of three then contacted the two aged 17 and 19, selling the minor girls for VND4 million (US$160) to karaoke bars that offer sex services.
After they were sold, the 12-year-old girls refused to serve customers, and customers also reportedly said the girls were too young.
The families of the victims later found out and reported to the police.
