SEA Games: Thailand win Indonesia 1-0 in men’s football semifinal

The goal by Thai midfielder Weerathep Pomphan at the 94′ mark secured a ticket into the final for Thailand.

Indonesia began the match with all-out offense to surprise Thailand, with midfielder Marc Anthony Klok missing a penalty right at the 2′ mark. But Thailand, seemingly unsurprised by Indonesia’s attack, focused on maintaining appropriate distances on their side of the field. After about 20 minutes, Thailand slowly gained the upperhand thanks to their midfielders’ superb control capabilities.

After the break, Thailand began to step up their game, pushing Indonesia into defense. It was a tug-of-war for the rest of the match, but Indonesia’s explosive early game means their strength waning during the late game, forcing multiple player changes.

Four red cards were given during the match, one to Thailand and three to Indonesia.

With their win, Thailand entered the SEA Games final for the 21st time, and now has the opportunity to win their 17th gold.
