Party chief Trong meets United Russia leader Medvedev

During the Russian Party head’s Vietnam visit, the two leaders exchanged their views on the current international situation and other issues of mutual concern, according to a statement released by the Communist Party’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

Trong and Medvedev also discussed strengthening ties between the two parties and countries, such as increasing visits and high-level exchanges, as well as increasing cooperation in economics, science, technology, culture, education and other fields.

The two sides agreed to promote trade and investment cooperation, enhance information exchange on the international situation, boost cooperation between foreign affairs agencies, and improve coordination at international forums.

Back in Vietnam

Medvedev said it was a pleasure to visit Vietnam again. He had been to Vietnam four times earlier, as Russian president in 2010, and prime minister in 2012, 2015 and 2018.

He praised the nation’s dynamic development and said he appreciated Party chief Trong’s words when the Vietnamese leader emphasized his nation’s gratitude for the support and assistance of the Russian people.

The two party leaders agreed on the importance of the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

For his part, Trong said Vietnam is prioritizing its relationships with political parties in Russia, including United Russia, as a political foundation for a long-term and sustainable relationship between the two countries.

Medvedev is on an official visit to Vietnam May 21-23 under a cooperation agreement between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the United Russia Party.

The two sides issued a joint statement on the results of the Medvedev’s official visit to Vietnam, with the goal of strengthening cooperation on regional and international issues in order to enhance peace and security for the benefit of the two nations.

The statement also included commitments to protecting and strengthening the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, by the end of 2022, Russia had 164 investment projects in Vietnam, with a total funds of $965.8 million, ranking 27th out of 140 countries and territories with direct investment in Vietnam. At the same time, Vietnam had invested in five projects in Russia with a total investment of $528 million.
