A Vietnamese citizen was among 151 killed in a Halloween crowd crush in Seoul Saturday night, the Vietnam Embassy in South Korea said Sunday.
The embassy said it has cooperated with local authorities to verify information and the identity of the deceased Vietnamese. It is requesting South Korean authorities to investigate the cause of the incident and performing necessary citizen protection measures to protect the rights and interests of Vietnamese citizens affected, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
The consulate department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also cooperating with local authorities to verify the identity of the victim and perform necessary procedures.
At least 151 people have been killed and dozens more were injured as about 100,000 people went to the popular Itaewon district to celebrate Halloween on Saturday night, Reuters reported, citing emergency officials.
About 66,000 Vietnamese students are currently in South Korea, accounting for 44% of all foreign students in the country.
