An overwhelming number of Vietnamese Internet users do so on mobile devices, according to a Ministry of Information and Communications report.
It said there are 81.8 million mobile broadband subscribers, equivalent to 83% of users.
The number of computer broadband subscribers was 20.73 million, or 21.04%.
The report also said of mobile subscribers, 93.7 million use smartphones and 26.1 million use feature phones.
The 2022 Vietnam e-commerce white book from the Ministry of Industry and Trade showed that people are spending more time on the Internet, especially on mobile phones.
An average person spends 6 hours and 38 minutes on the Internet every day, with 22% saying they are online for more than nine hours a day.
Internet speed is reasonably good. According to Ookla Speedtest, mobile download speed is 39.48 Mbps, higher than the global average of 33.17 Mbps.
But Vietnam fell seven places to 52nd in the global Internet speed ranking in September, mainly because speeds have increased in other countries thanks to the popularity of 5G.
The Ministry of Information and Communications said it is amending the Internet service quality standard to set a minimum fixed Internet speed of 50 Mbps.
