QUẢNG NAM — ExxonMobil has pledged a total of US$60,000 in 2020-21 through VinaCapital Foundation (VCF) to advance its long-term healthcare capability enhancement programmes in the central province.

In a statement on Friday, ExxonMobil said that it contributed $35,000 in response to VCF’s call in its ‘Our Hearts to Central Việt Nam’ campaign to support the relief efforts during the Molave typhoon 2020.

The fund was used to rebuild the completely damaged roof of Trà Cang Commune Health Centre, provide medical emergency packages and fix the water system, rebuild the landslides of the basement in Trà Leng communal health centre, build a new water storage tank, fix the water system and make ditches to solve the drainage problems.

In 2021, ExxonMobil funded $25,000 to VCF’s Survive To Thrive to reduce the infant mortality in Quảng Nam through the provision of 13 pieces of essential neonatal life-saving equipment to two mountainous district hospitals, Nam Giang and Phước Sơn.

Every day, 40-45 children receive health assessments from both district hospitals while their NICUs currently treat on average three to four neonatal infants per day for issues such as premature births, respiratory failure, brain haemorrhage, diarrhea and jaundice. An estimated 180 neonate beneficiaries will receive treatment per month from the donated medical equipment by ExxonMobil.

“ExxonMobil is working to understand and support the needs of Việt Nam communities, especially in the central area where we operate,” said Cecile Rauline, President and General Director of ExxonMobil Việt Nam.

“Together with our strategic partners like VCF, Operation Smile Việt Nam, and Teach for Vietnam, our continued investment in healthcare and education programs have made significant impacts to help the in-need communities improve their healthcare support and education quality.”

Since 2011, ExxonMobil has contributed nearly $610,000 to VinaCapital Foundation through its Critical Response and Survive to Thrive programmes to equip healthcare centres in Đà Nẵng, Quảng Nam and Quảng Ngãi with modern medical equipment and provide Advanced Pediatric Life Support training for medical staffs for improved pediatric care.

A total of $230,000 has been provided to Operation Smile Việt Nam since 2014 for screenings and operations for more than 1,000 children born with facial deformities, helping change the lives of more than 600 underprivileged children and families, providing oral-care education and treatment for nearly 10,000 children from Quảng Nam, Quảng Ngãi and Northern provinces.

Through Teach for Việt Nam, ExxonMobil has donated a total of  $120,000, and IT equipment supports since 2018 to help teach 1,540 students in Tây Ninh and Quảng Nam in STEM and the 21st century skills (problem-solving, communication, collaboration and creativity); supported 20 schools in implementing STEM in their classrooms and extracurricular activities; and provided training and upskilling for 250 teachers in understanding and teaching STEM. — VnExpress News
