Hanoi to spend $106M on seven new public schools

Vietnam’s capital Hanoi will spend VND2.5 trillion (US$106.5 million) on seven “advanced and modern” grade 1-12 schools.

The city People’s Committee said the seven schools will break ground next year using the municipal budget.

Set for completion in the last quarter of 2025, each of the seven schools will receive students from first to 12th grades.

The committee has assigned the municipal Department of Education and Training to work with authorities in the seven districts where the schools will be located to study educational institutions inside and outside Vietnam to learn the best grade 1-12 model practices.

The seven schools should be guaranteed to provide “advanced quality and modern facilities,” the committee stated in an announcement.

The committee has also requested that foreign architects be chosen to design the schools.

According to a draft plan that made use of public opinion surveys, each of the schools will have 68 classes: 20 elementary, 24 each for middle school and high school, as well as 135 teachers, including five administrators, and 44 other staff.

The schools will have indoor sporting facilities for martial arts, aerobics, badminton, tennis, basketball, football, gymnastics, yoga and swimming, as well as art studios and outdoor spaces for camping and other activities.

Hanoi has 2.3 million preschool to high school students enrolled for the 2023-2024 school year.

According to official statistics, by 2022, Hanoi had more than 2,800 pre-school to high-school level schools, of which 550 were non-public schools, 13 were international schools and 21 were preschools with foreign investments.
