Temperatures across the north plunged to below 10 degrees Celsius on Saturday morning, with Hanoi recording 7-8 degrees.
The seventh day of the cold wave saw Hanoi recording less than 10 degrees for the first time, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Temperatures were between 8 and 11 degrees in the plains and 5-7 degrees in mountainous areas across the northern region.
Mount Mau Son in Lang Son Province recorded zero degrees, slightly warmer than the minus 2 it saw on Friday morning.
Sa Pa’s temperature was less than 4 degrees.
The north-central region saw the lowest temperatures this winter, with Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh Provinces reporting 6-12 degrees on Saturday morning.
It was warmer further south at 12-14 degrees in Hue and around 17 degrees in Da Nang.
The weather is forecast to become warmer during the day, with the mercury climbing to 20 degrees in Hanoi and 11 degrees in Sa Pa.
The north and north central regions are expected to remain cold until Christmas.
