Indonesia’s national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has addressed the fuel leak from one of its aircraft on the runway at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Cengkareng, Tangerang, Banten over the weekend.
Garuda Indonesia President Director Irfan Setiaputra on Saturday clarified that the affected flight was GA-174, scheduled from Jakarta to Pekanbaru, departing Soekarno-Hatta at 11:50 a.m. (Jakarta time) the same day. The PK-GFW flight was set to arrive at Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport at 1:35 p.m.
The issue was discovered by the Pilot in Command (PIC) during a routine pre-takeoff safety procedure. That procedure is part of the safety manual before departure, Irfan said in a statement, he explained.
Following the discovery, the PIC decided to return the aircraft to the apron for a thorough inspection. Irfan stressed that the safety of passengers was prioritized, leading to the decision to inspect the fuel spill.
All 135 passengers on GA-174 were rebooked on a replacement flight.
