Four boys killed as truck hits motorbikes

A pick-up truck hit a motorbike and flipped onto two others in northern Vietnam late Monday night, killing four people.

Phan Van Nghe, 39, was driving a pick-up truck along National Highway 279 in Dien Bien Province at around 10:30 p.m. on Monday when he hit a motorbike from the opposite direction in Muong Ang District, killing two 15-year-old boys on the bike.

The collision caused the truck to flip over and crush two other motorbikes. Two boys, 17 and 18, on one of the motorbike were rushed to hospital but died later on Tuesday.

The remaining motorcyclist is still under treatment at the hospital.

Four other people on the truck were injured.

National Highway 279 runs 600 kilometers long to link ten mountainous provinces of the north, which are Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Son La, and Dien Bien.

The section in Dien Bien Province has two lanes.
