30 flights canceled due to fog

A dense fog has caused nearly 30 flights to and from north-central provinces of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An to be canceled over the past two days.

Vietnam Airlines on Tuesday had to cancel four flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Thanh Hoa and two flights between Buon Ma Thuot in Dak Lak Province and Thanh Hoa Province.

Vietjet Air canceled two flights between Thanh Hoa and the southern Can Tho City and had 10 planes from HCMC land in Noi Bai of Hanoi instead of Thanh Hoa, which is 190km away.

At Vinh Airport in Nghe An Province, as many as 20 flights were canceled on Monday and Tuesday while several airplanes had to land in Hanoi and Da Nang City instead.

The northern and north-central regions of Vietnam have experienced drizzling rain and fog over the past week under the impact of a cold air mass from the east and a strong current in the upper westerly wind zone, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

This type of weather benefits the growth of crops but imposes disadvantages for daily life as it makes it difficult to dry clothing, street surfaces will stay wet, and the fog can affect traffic visibility in the morning.
