The city’s Customs Department on Wednesday collaborated with municipal police and the Anti-smuggling Department under the General Department of Vietnam Customs to investigate a ring trafficking drugs from the U.S. and Germany to Vietnam.

The move came after local customs found 20 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden within packages sent from the U.S. and 5.6 kilograms of ecstasy inside candy bags from Germany on Nov. 8.

All packages were sent via express delivery to unspecified recipients.

Vietnam’s biggest city, HCMC has become an increasingly important hub for drug smugglers resorting to “extremely sophisticated and cunning tricks,” Major General Nguyen Van Vien, head of the Ministry of Public Security’s Drug Crime Investigation Department, said last year.
