HÀ NỘI — Digital transformation is not just about technology, but also awareness and habit, said Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyễn Huy Dũng at a seminar conducted by Việt Nam Women’s Academy in collaboration with The Asia Foundation.

“A digital university hence is not only teaching through videoconference, it is the combination of systems and platforms that involve both lecturers and students,” the deputy minister said at the ‘Digital transformation in universities,’ seminar on Friday.

The event is a response to the Government’s National Digital Transformation Programme, which has the dual purpose of developing digital economy, digital society, and digital government, and establishing Vietnamese digital businesses with global capacity.

Dr Trần Quang Tiến, director of Việt Nam Women’s Academy, and academic personnel from other higher education institutions were also in attendance.

In his opening speech, Dr Tiến said: “Digital transformation does not concern only an individual, an organisation or an educational institution, it concerns the world as a whole.”

“To respond to the multi-dimensional impact of COVID-19 on the economy, society and education, universities are compelled to transform themselves with digitalisation, in order to ensure education quality and services.”

Dr Đặng Hoài Bắc, deputy director of Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, discussed his school’s experience in digital transformation models.

The institute has been utilising customised applications, including in admission, services, virtual labs, learning and certification management, and general management.

Guest speakers also elaborated on the transformation models at other universities in Việt Nam and abroad, including Hà Nội University of Science and Technology, the Banking Academy, and Water Resources University.

The seminar was an academic forum that allowed exchanges between experts and academic staff and researchers, delivered an overview of the current situation and the opportunities and challenges that digital transformation brings. — VnExpress News
