Chinese firm to build Hanoi metro

The Hanoi Department of Transport and the China Pacific Construction Group (CPCG) in collaboration with the Vietnam Construction Import-Export Corporation on Thursday signed a memorandum of cooperation in which they agreed to cooperate and share experiences in researching and implementing critical transportation infrastructure projects in the city.

On the list of projects is metro line No.5. which will run 6.5 km underground, 2 km elevated and 30 km on the ground.

Connecting Van Cao Street with Hoa Lac Intersection, the line will cross seven districts, Ba Dinh, Dong Da, Cau Giay and Nam Tu Liem in the inner-city and Hoai Duc, Quoc Oai, and Thach That on the outskirts.

It includes 21 stations and two depots.

The project was approved by the government in 2011, divided into two phases: 2016-2020 and 2020-2030.

However, the deadline for the 2016-2020 phase has passed, so the goal now is to invest in the entire route between 2021-2025.

As part of an approved plan, Hanoi is set to have 10 metro lines, including nine main lines and one connecting satellite towns, with a total length of nearly 420 km, including 75 km underground.

So far, only one line, the Cat Linh – Ha Dong line, has been put into use. It is the only working metro line in Vietnam right now.

The China Pacific Construction Group (CPCG) was founded in 1986 and has consistently ranked among the top 500 global companies for nine years.

In 2022, the group was ranked 150th globally and 48th in China. It holds the position as the world’s largest private construction and engineering company.
