Cambodia eyes speed boat service to Phu Quoc Island

The Cambodian government plans to launch a speed boat service connecting Kep Province with Phu Quoc Island to boost tourism.

Cambodian authorities are in preparations to launch the international waterway for tourists to travel between Koh Tonsay in Kep Province and Phu Quoc Island off the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang, Tourism Minister Thong Khon said as quoted by Khmer Times.

He added that the main purpose of establishing the water link was to attract foreign tourists traveling in Vietnam to the kingdom and generate jobs and income for Cambodians living in nearby coastal areas.

Kep Province is home to many other potential tourist attractions including islands, waterfalls, the Kong Kang forest area, mountains and zoos.

In a bid to attract tourists, the province also has delicious food, convenient transport and abundant accommodation, which are all cheap.

Phu Quoc, home to long, sandy beaches and high-end resorts, has become a global destination after getting an international airport in 2012 and allowing 30-day visa-free entry for foreigners in 2014.

It received over five million visitors in 2019, including 541,600 foreigners.
