Vietnam’s former deputy PM reprimanded

Former Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung and former head of the government office Mai Tien Dung have been rebuked by the Politburo for several violations at the trade ministry.

At a Saturday meeting, the Communist Party’s Secretariat issued a warning to the Party Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for the 2016-2021 term, and reprimanded the committee for the 2021-2026 term.

Deputy industry minister Do Thang Hai and former deputy minister Hoang Quoc Vuong were both expelled from the Party.

The Party Committee of the industry ministry for the 2016-2021 term was negligent in management, severely violated democratic centralism principles, as well as other Party and state regulations, according to the Politburo, the Communist Party’s decision-making body.

These violations have caused severe consequences that are difficult to be resolved, harboring great risks to the property and capital of the state, investors and consumers. They have also caused a great waste in resources. Certain criminal cases at the ministry have been brought to light, with many officials who violated the law exposed, causing unrest and negatively affecting the reputation of the Party and state management organizations.

The Party Committee of the ministry for the 2021-2026 period was also negligent in management and violated democratic centralism principles, as well as other Party and state regulations.

The committee also issued work codes that violated Politburo regulations and allowed criminal cases at the ministry to occur, which resulted in several officials violating the law, including members of the Party Committee and the deputy minister.

Dinh Dung, while he was the prime minister for the 2016-2021 term, and Tien Dung, while he was head of the government office, violated Party and state regulations, affecting the reputation of the Party and state management organizations.

Dinh Dung, 68, used to be the chairman and Party secretary of Vinh Phuc Province. He later became the Minister of Construction. He became deputy prime minister in 2016, and held the position for five years.

Vietnam’s Communist Party has four modes of punishment for misconduct by official members: reprimand, warning, demotion and expulsion.
