South Korean actress Ham So-won has announced that she will divorce her Chinese husband Jin Hua and start a new life in Vietnam.
“My family and I are really tired at the moment. I will get divorced because of criticism from antifans aimed at my family,” Ham said in a video posted to her YouTube channel Hamsowon TV on Monday. “In the future, I will take legal action on this.”
“I have spoken to my husband and his family,” she said.
The actress said she made the decision after receiving messages from fans advising her to do so.
“I think getting divorced and letting him meet another person at his age is reasonable,” she added.
A message to her fans in an Instagram post read: “Thank you for protecting me, caring about me and supporting me. I’m always grateful to you all. I will come to live in Vietnam.”
Ham and her businessman husband Jin have been living in Vietnam on and off for some time.
They have been traveling back and forth between Ho Chi Minh City and South Korea to make it easier for their children’s studies. Their income comes from selling cosmetics through livestreaming on South Korean and Chinese platforms.
This is not the first time Ham has talked about divorce.
In 2021, on a South Korean TV show, she was criticized for bullying her husband and manipulating his family.
She later said that sadness stemming from the incident initially made her want a divorce.
She admitted that her parents-in-law were distressed and hurt when she and Jin participated in the TV show and were criticized by the public.
Ham, 47, entered show business in 1997 after winning a beauty contest. She starred in the box office hit “Sex Is Zero” in 2002, as well as the TV series My Big Family (2002-2003).
She and Jin got married in 2018, despite disagreements from both families due to their age gap. Jin is 19 years younger than Ham.
