200 Vietnamese evacuated from Ukraine war zones

They have been supported by the Vietnam Embassy in Ukraine and other groups for the evacuation, said Le Thi Thu Hang, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. There are around 7,000 Vietnamese currently living in Ukraine and no casualty has been reported amid ongoing conflicts, she added.

The foreign ministry has cooperated with airlines and other authorities to safely evacuate Vietnamese citizens from war zones and may repatriate them if they wish.

Representative agencies in Poland, Russia, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia would request favorable opportunities for Vietnamese people in Ukraine to seek temporary shelter and would provide them with essential supplies.

The ministry said it has requested the embassy in Ukraine to keep in touch and issue safety guidance for the Vietnamese community in the country, helping them with securing supplies, seeking shelter and maintaining contact with others.

Russia on Feb. 24 authorized a “special military operation” on Ukraine for the “demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine,” Reuters reported.

Six days after the campaign was launched, Russia has gained control of Berdyansk and is surrounding other major cities of Ukraine, including Kharkiv and capital Kyiv.

Russian and Ukrainian delegations sat down for talks in Belarus for about five hours on Feb. 28. They then returned to their capitals to seek opinions from leaders.
