9 Thai immigration officers disciplined for giving pop star special treatment at airport

A group of officers at Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport have been punished after escorting Hong Kong-born pop star Jackson Wang through the airport, causing chaos at immigration counters.

The nine officers, one police major, six senior sergeant majors and two sergeants, were transferred to “inactive posts” at the Royal Thai Police headquarters, Bangkok Post reported.

Jackson, a member of K-pop boy band Got7, arrived at the airport last week and was escorted by immigration officers of the airport.

He allegedly received special treatment from the police officers, which resulted in extended waiting times for other passengers at immigration counters.

Many passengers filed complaints to the Thai Immigration Bureau.

Jackson is one of the most popular foreign artists in Thailand and his popularity rose after performing at a football match between Manchester United and Liverpool in 2022.

In the same year, Wang’s name was the most searched word on Google’s Year in Search 2022 under the “Trending People” category in Thailand.
