The first yellow card of the game was given to Pham Xuan Manh, who got a wrong tackle on Tom Rogic.

Vietnam will play Australia without the strongest lineup. Experienced players Nguyen Tuan Anh, Ha Duc Chinh, Dang Van Lam, Doan Van Hau and Nguyen Trong Hoang are still in treatment for injuries. For Australia, five players of the squad have just returned to the country and only have one day to train before the game, while key left-back Aziz Behich couldn’t fly to Melbourne from Turkey due to a snowstorm. But they are confident of beating Vietnam and have aimed to quickly secure a win.

Vietnam are the least experienced team in the final round of World Cup qualifiers. After six consecutive losses, they are at the bottom of group B with zero points.

Australia are third on the group with 11 points, behind Japan and Saudi Arabia.

In the first leg at My Dinh National Stadium, Australia won 1-0 with the only goal by Rhyan Grant.
