Work on Bien Hoa-Vung Tau expressway to start next April

Work on the 19.5-km section of the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway to be built in Ba Ria – Vung Tau will begin next April, the province has announced.

The expressway will connect the beach town of Vung Tau with the industrial city of Bien Hoa in Dong Nai Province.

Both provinces neighbor Ho Chi Minh City.

To cost VND5.19 trillion (nearly $222 million), including VND1.33 trillion for land, the section will run through Ba Ria and Phu My towns in Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

Ba Ria – Vung Tau will contribute VND670 billion with the rest coming from the central government.

More than 1,200 households will have to make way for it, and the construction is expected to be completed in June 2025.

To cost around VND18 trillion in all, the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway will run almost 54 kilometers (33 miles) between the two highly industrialized provinces of Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

Dong Nai has agreed to contribute VND2.6 trillion of fund for the portion running through it, with the rest also coming from the government.

It is not clear when the Dong Nai portion will be built, but the government has requested the two provinces to ensure work begins before June 30, 2023.

The expressway is one of three the government plans to build to meet the urgent transportation needs of the southern key economic region comprising HCMC, Dong Nai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, and the provinces of Binh Duong, Tay Ninh and Binh Phuoc.

Currently only National Highway 51 links Bien Hoa and Vung Tau.
