HCM CITY — Work has begun on building an accommodation complex in Thủ Đức City’s Linh Trung II Export Processing Zone that will house around 1000 workers.

A ground breaking ceremony for the project was held on Monday by the HCM City Department of Construction and the Thiên Phát Company.

Huỳnh Thị Bạch Vân, chairwoman of the Thiên Phát, said that the complex, developed on an area of 5,082 square meters, will consist of two 12-storey buildings with 360 apartments that will be built with an investment of approximately VNĐ408 billion.

More than 1,000 workers staying in the complex will be able to use self-contained facilities like kindergartens, commercial and service areas as well as amusement parks. This will be a place for employees to enjoy a stable life that will enable greater productivity in the export processing zone.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, HCM City People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dương Anh Đức stressed the importance of safe construction.

Furthermore, the management board of the city’s Export Processing Zones and Industrial Parks “must closely follow, promptly guide and remove existing difficulties so that all projects can be completed on schedule,” he said.

Đức noted that there was substantial demand in the city for social housing and housing for low-income workers.

According to the construction department, the city’s housing development plan for the 2021-2025 period expects to build nearly 484,000 units with a floor space of 50.6 million square metres. Of this, the development target of social housing and housing for workers is more than 35,700 apartments with 2.5 million metres of floor space.

HCM City also aims to develop another 56,749 apartments with 3.1 million metres of floor space for social housing and low-cost commercial housing for those living in urban areas, along canals and in old apartment buildings that have to be demolished and rebuilt.

This year, the department will review and speed up investment procedures for 18 projects, including 10 social housing projects and two workers’ accommodation projects. — VnExpress News
