A layer of frost blanketed Phia Oac peak in northern Cao Bang Province, as temperatures plunged below 0 degrees Celsius on Monday.
Be Quoc Vinh, Director of Phia Oac – Phin Den National Park, said the frost appeared at 2:00 p.m., from an altitude of about 1,600 m up to the mountain’s summit (1,931 m). The outdoor temperature dropped to minus 5 degrees Celsius.
According to Be Quoc Vinh, Director of Phia Oac – Phia Den National Park, frost formed around 2:00 p.m. at altitudes from approximately 1,600 meters to the summit at 1,931 meters, with outdoor temperatures dropping to minus 5 degrees Celsius.
“The frost created a white coating over all trees and objects. At that time, the wind was strong, and frost began to fall from the trees,” Vinh explained.
Phia Oac is the tallest peak within the Phia Oac – Phia Den National Park. At around 4:50 p.m., frost also started to develop at the Mau Son peak in Lang Son Province, which stands about 1,000 meters above sea level. A frost layer was seen covering tree branches and fences.
Frost is also expected to appear on other mountain peaks over 1,500 meters on Monday night, as a fresh wave of cold air sweeps through northern Vietnam, causing a steady decline in regional temperatures.
The National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting reported that the cold spell will last until Jan. 25, with the lowest temperature in the Northern Delta being 7-10 degrees Celius and sub-zero in high mountains.
