Wartime bomb found at construction site for HCMC hospital

A bomb left behind in the war was found at the construction site of a new Ho Chi Minh City hospital being built in Hoc Mon District on Thursday.

The explosive was found at the building site for the Hoc Mon Area General Hospital as excavators were digging the ground, said hospital director Dang Quoc Quan, as reported by VOV.

It was found laying about 0.5-1 m underground.

Upon discovery of the bomb, construction was stopped and it was reported to the Hoc Mon District authorities and the HCMC Department of Health. It was eventually moved away from the location for disposal.

The hospital project has a total investment value at VND1.895 trillion ($80.7 million). It will have 1,000 beds and a landing pad for helicopters. It is expected to be completed this year.

Part of Hoc Mon was a French’s firing field during the Indochina War.
