Vietnam’s goal at the Thursday friendly match with Hong Kong is to win and test a new playing style, head coach Phillipe Troussier said at a press briefing.
Troussier expressed pleasure at the performance shown by Vietnamese players after one-week training for the game, the national team’s first match under his leadership.
Hong Kong’s coach Jorn Andersen commented that with their FIFA rankings, Vietnam are a strong rival. Despite the pressures from the game, Hong Kong will gain much experience for future tournaments, especially the Asian Cup 2023 in Qatar in 2024, he said.
Andersen also showed curiosity about tactics that Troussier will apply in the game, adding that Hong Kong will focus on their own style.
Vietnamese midfielder Hoang Duc said that the team are working hard to adapt to the playing style of coach Troussier. The whole team are ready to bring a watch-worth game to fans, he stated.
The Vietnam-Hong Kong match will take place at 7:30 p.m. on June 15 at Lach Tray Stadium in the northern Hai Phong City.
