Vietnam confirmed 42,427 Covid-19 cases in 63 provinces and cities Friday, breaking the previous record set last Tuesday.
Hanoi led the fray with 4,549 cases, followed by Vinh Phuc with 2,158 and Quang Ninh with 2,018.
The Ministry of Health confirmed 80 Covid-19 deaths on the same day, including 12 in Hanoi, raising the national death toll to 39,358, or 1.5 percent of total infections.
The fourth wave that hit Vietnam last April has infected over 2.65 million cases now.
On Friday, 6,215 patients recovered, pushing the number of recoveries to over 2.26 million.
To date, more than 67 million people have been vaccinated with two doses and 22 million with three doses.
