Health authorities on Saturday confirmed 454,197 new Covid cases, including nearly 300,000 cases that had been detected on previous days but yet to be added to the national database.
The Health Ministry recorded 168,704 Covid cases in all 63 cities and provinces while Hanoi and the northern provinces of Hung Yen, Nam Dinh and Phu Tho added 285,493 cases from previous days.
With the additional cases, Saturday’s marked the highest daily tally since the pandemic broke out in Vietnam more than two years ago.
Hanoi leads Saturday’s tally with 225,693 cases, followed by Nam Dinh with 39,381 and Hung Yen with 38,252.
On Saturday, 62 deaths were confirmed, including 10 in Hanoi, pushing the death toll to 41,293, or 0.7 percent of the total infections.
Since Covid-19 broke out, Vietnam has recorded over 5.83 million patients, of whom more than three million have recovered.
