The Ministry of Health confirmed 142,128 Covid-19 cases on Sunday in 61 provinces and cities, while the northern Bac Giang and Hoa Binh provinces added 60,044 infections detected from previous days.
With the additional cases, Hoa Binh leads Sunday’s tally with 36,572 cases, followed by Hanoi with 29,578 and Bac Giang with 29,046.
On Sunday, 87 deaths were confirmed, including 12 in Hanoi, pushing the death toll to 40,813 cases, or 1 percent of the total infections.
65,445 Covid patients were announced recovered on the same day, increasing the number of recovered patients to 2,681,447.
Since the fourth coronavirus wave hit the country in April last year, Vietnam has recorded over 4.35 million cases.
