Vietnam missile ship trains with Indian counterparts

Vietnam’s Missile Ship 379 has participated in a multi-category training session with India’s destroyer and submarine chaser which arrived in Ho Chi Minh City this week.

The Vietnamese ship joined destroyer INS Shivalik and submarine chaser INS Kamorta practiced formation, greetings, exchanging information and international signaling.

They also trained to implement the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES) of Western Pacific countries.

The training session was carried out successfully despite high waves and high winds.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Duc Thien, deputy commander of the 167th Brigade, said that the joint training activity would help the two sides exchange experiences, improve their skills and abilities in formation exercises, implementing codes of conduct, handling unexpected encounters at sea as well as search and rescue operations.

INS Shivalik and INS Kamorta was docked at the Nha Rong –Khanh Hoi port in HCMC from November 30 to December 2.

Vietnam – India relations have developed strongly in recent years in the fields of economy, politics and security. The two countries upgraded their relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership during the visit of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to Vietnam in September 2016.

National defense has become an important pillar in the relationship between the two countries. When Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh visited Vietnam in June, the two sides signed a joint vision statement on the Vietnam-India defense partnership up to 2030, setting out development orientations in defense cooperation for the next decade.

Visits by naval and coast guard ships of two countries have become routine. In February, frigate 016 Quang Trung of the Vietnam People’s Navy participated in the MILAN multilateral naval exercise in Vishakhapatnam, India.

In August, frigate 012 Ly Thai To and the squadron of destroyers INS Ranvijay and corvette INS Kora of the Indian Navy engaged formation and communication exercises in the waters of Khanh Hoa Province.
