A video shared by the Hanoi club showed at least two players of the Royal Police club walking over to shake hands and take photos with Hai after the match, which was held to celebrate Vietnam and Malaysia’s 50 years of diplomatic relationship.

The Vietnamese club earned a 3-1 victory with their B team, after the A team had experienced an eventful matchweek 8 at V. League.

Cong An Ha Noi are standing fifth out of 14 teams in the V. League table this season, with Hai in good form, having scored three goals and made two assists.

Hai, 26, is one of the most prominent footballers in Vietnam, who first rose to stardom with a stellar performance at the 2018 AFC U23 Championship, where Vietnam finished runners-up.

He later became a key player for the national team and with them won the 2019 SEA Games gold medal and 2018 AFF Cup and advanced to the final qualifiers of the World Cup for the first time in the country’s history.

He and his girlfriend Chu Thanh Huyen will hold a traditional engagement party on Jan. 1, then he will head to Qatar with Vietnam’s national team for the Asian Cup.
