With Storm Talim forecast to make landfall over Vietnam Tuesday afternoon, a number of flights from Hanoi to Asian destinations will be delayed by 2-10 hours.
Vietnam Airlines announced that flights scheduled to leave Noi Bai Airport for Bangkok (Thailand), Siem Reap (Cambodia), Mumbai (India), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and Taipei and Kaohsiung (Taiwan) between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. have been delayed.
Flights arriving from Tokyo, Busan in South Korea, Beijing, and Hong Kong would arrive later than usual, it said.
The announcement came as the Northern Airports Authority has ordered three northern airports to be closed on Tuesday. Hanoi’s Noi Bai Airport will stop all arrivals and departures from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, while Cat Bi Airport in Hai Phong and Van Don Airport in Quang Ninh will halt all flights from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Vietjet and Bamboo Airways said many flights to and from the airports will have to change their schedule, urging passengers to check for updates on the airlines’ websites.
China also canceled a series of inbound and outbound flights as the storm hit Zhanjiang city in Guangdong Province at 10:20 p.m. Monday.
Talim is the first storm to form over Vietnamese waters this year.
