Some 5,200 Vietnamese have been evacuated from Ukraine so far, and 1,700 have returned to Vietnam.
The evacuation from Ukraine’s neighboring countries was carried out by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant ministries and the country’s missions in those countries.
The foreign ministry also assisted dozens of people to return to Vietnam on commercial flights.
Many others, who have valid documents issued by Ukraine, have chosen to go to other countries.
“The evacuation has been basically completed,” according to the World and Vietnam Report newspaper.
A few Vietnamese have stayed back in Ukraine for various reasons. In Mariupol, where the fighting has been fierce, there are 17 left after 60 others evacuated.
Vietnam’s missions in Europe are monitoring the situation closely, coordinating with local authorities, the Red Cross and foreign agencies to provide further aid if needed.
There were around 7,000 Vietnamese in Ukraine, mainly in Kharkiv, Odessa and Kiev, before Russia launched its attack in late Feb.
