Vietnam Airlines to resume routes to Japan, S Korea as entry restrictions lifted

Vietnam Airlines on Tuesday announced it will restart air routes connecting Vietnam’s major cities to tourist destinations in Japan and South Korea after both lifted entry restrictions.

From June 1, the national flag carrier will resume Hanoi-Busan and Da Nang-Seoul services with the frequency of three to four flights a week.

One month later, it will resume flying between Ho Chi Minh City and Busan, famous for its beaches, mountains and ancient temples.

From July 1, Vietnam Airlines will restart flights from Da Nang to Tokyo.

The carrier said it will also increase flights from Hanoi, HCMC to Seoul by three to four a week from this Sunday, and double its frequency on routes from Vietnam’s two biggest cities to Tokyo and Osaka.

Japan waived mandatory quarantine for people arriving from Vietnam who have received three Covid-19 vaccine shots and plans to reopen its border to foreign tourists from late last month.

South Korea also allowed all foreign tourists to enter the country without undergoing mandatory quarantine from April 1.

Japan and South Korea are the largest markets for Vietnamese labor and overseas Vietnamese students.

Vietnam resumed commercial flights to and from Tokyo and Seoul early this year.
