Vietnam Airlines to open ticket sales for regular Australia flights

Vietnam Airlines will start selling air tickets for regular flights between Vietnam and Australia from Saturday, signaling its resumption after two years.

Vietnam Airlines plans to fly between Ho Chi Minh City and Sydney twice a week and between Hanoi and Sydney once a week, it stated on its website.

Over 300,000 Vietnamese live and work in Australia, mainly in Sydney and Melbourne.

Australia is one of Vietnam’s biggest feeder tourism markets, with more than 383,000 arrivals in 2019, according to data from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

Bamboo Airways said it plans to resume more regular flights to Singapore, Frankfurt, Bangkok and Phnom Penh from this month and would launch a direct service between HCMC and Melbourne from early this year, with two weekly flights.

Vietnam grounded all regular international flights in March 2020.

On Jan. 1 this year regular flights resumed to Bangkok, Phnom Penh, San Francisco, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei and Tokyo.

Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Moscow, Paris, and Sydney will be added to the list from Jan. 16.
