Vietnam Airlines suspends regular flights to Moscow

Vietnam Airlines on Tuesday night announced it would suspend its regular flights between Hanoi and Moscow from Friday until further notice amid the war between Russia and Ukraine.

The national flag carrier said in a press release that it needs to “review and clarify procedures and regulations related to insurance and flight operations to Russia.”

For passengers who have bought tickets, the airline said that it will offer refunds or schedule change.

Vietnam Airlines, the only Vietnamese carrier operating a regular route to Russia at present, just resumed Hanoi-Moscow last January after nearly two years of suspension due to Covid impacts.

Russian forces launched attack in Ukraine last month and many parts of Ukraine have been bombarded with artillery and cruise missiles.

Earlier, the U.S. and European countries have closed their airspace to Russian flights.

Vietnam fully reopened its borders from March 15 after nearly two years of closure. It has resumed visa exemption policy for citizens from 24 countries, including Russia.
