HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s socioeconomic outlook was bright in January with stable macroeconomic indicators and inflation rates in check.

Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính made this remark at the monthly meeting on Thursday to review Việt Nam’s socioeconomic development in January, the disbursement of public money, and the progress of three National Target Programmes.

He began his speech by reviewing the world situation. He said the world is generally peaceful and stable, but there are conflicts in certain regions. Global inflation is cooling, but still at high levels.

Countries have a tight stance on monetary policy but might ease up on it shortly. Global trade is still weak, and natural disasters and climate change remain unpredictable.

In Việt Nam, signs of positive growth can be observed in agriculture, manufacturing and services. Investment remained buoyant and digital transformation was in high gear.

People’s living standards continued improving, with the Three Strategic Breakthroughs on track. Preparations for the Lunar New Year were in full swing.

In terms of national defence and diplomacy, the country was making good progress as well.

He also said many major political events took place in January, notably including the extraordinary meetings organised by the National Assembly (NA) and the Government.

In the meetings, the NA passed two laws and two resolutions. The Government and ministries reviewed their performance in 2023 and set the targets for 2024.

The Government also enacted Resolution 01 to outline the 168 tasks to accomplish this year. Its motto is “responsibility, proactivity, creativity and efficiency”.

Particularly, he underlined a recent article written by General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng celebrating the 94th anniversary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam, which serves to strengthen national pride and determination to move forward to become a country with advanced industries and per capita high income by 2030.

Looking ahead to February, he urged ministries to assess the situation and formulate policies to reinvigorate investment, exports and consumption, as well as to leverage new growth drivers such as the digital economy.

He also urged ministries to take measures to create more jobs for the economy and engage the country further in global supply chains.

He called on ministries to focus more on cultural development, national defence and diplomacy, and leverage the resources of key corporations and enterprises.

The immediate priority, he said, is to ensure a happy Tết for everyone and that “no one is left behind”. —VNS
