Quy Nhon welcomes first international cruise ship after two years

French luxury ship Le Laperouse, carrying 106 European tourists, became the first international cruise ship to dock at Quy Nhon Port since the pandemic broke out over two years ago.

The ship arrived in the popular resort town of Quy Nhon in the central province of Binh Dinh on Saturday after leaving the popular beach resort town of Nha Trang.

The tourists visited the Banh It Towers, an iconic symbol of Champa culture, and other tourist attractions the town before proceeding to Mang Lang Church and Da Da Reef in neighboring Phu Yen Province.

After leaving Quy Nhon, the ship will continue its journey to Da Nang City.

Le Laperouse had earlier docked at the Con Dao Archipelago in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau and in Ho Chi Minh City.

Huynh Cao Nhat, deputy director of Binh Dinh’s Department of Tourism, said the inclusion of Quy Nhon in international cruise itineraries was a positive sign for the local travel and hospitality industries.

He hoped there would be more international cruises to Quy Nhon in the coming months and years, giving a boost to post-pandemic tourism recovery.
