A bus driver in the Central Highlands’ Dak Lak Province was suspended and fined after he was found texting on his phone while driving over a 40 km distance.
Do Van Cuong, 35, was suspended for 20 days and fined VND1 million ($42.51) by the Quyet Thang Cooperative on Wednesday.
On Monday, a video of Cuong constantly texting on his phone while driving from Buon Ma Thuot Town to Kong Pak District was filmed by a passenger on the bus. At the time, the bus was carrying eight people.
Nguyen Thanh Duc, director of the Quyet Thang Cooperative, said Cuong’s behaviors could lead to danger, and that the cooperative does not allow drivers to use their phones while driving.
Drivers could be fined VND1-2 million for using phones while driving, in accordance with Vietnamese regulations.
