US dollar continues to gain over dong

The U.S. dollar continues to climb to a new peak against the Vietnamese dong Friday as the State Bank of Vietnam pushes up its reference rate.

Vietcombank set the exchange rate at VND24,230 Friday afternoon, up 0.12% from Thursday.

The rate has gone up 5.72% since the beginning of the year, which means the dong has depreciated by the same rate.

VPBank’s rate went up 0.16% to VND24,240, while that of Techcombank increased by 0.19% to VND24,247.

The central bank increased the rate by 0.19% to VND23,541, its sixth consecutive hikes.

The U.S. Dollar Index, which measures the greenback’s strength against six major currencies, declined marginally to 112.27 points, still around a two-decade high.
